Governance Structure
The Bauhinia Foundation is a charitable trust which is exempt from tax under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance. The policy research work of the Foundation is carried out principally by its operating arm, the Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre, which is incorporated as a non profit-making Hong Kong company.
Under the provisions of the Trust Deed, the Protector is empowered to, amongst other things, monitor the performance of the Trustee and to remove the Trustee for breach of the Trust Deed. The Protector's consent is required for any amendments to the Trust Deed.
Mr Charles Ho is appointed as the first Protector of the Bauhinia Foundation.

Mr Ho is Chairman of Sing Tao News Corporation Limited. During the 1970s and 1980s, he worked for a number of international investment banks where he gained considerable experience in international business and finance in the United States. Mr Ho returned to Hong Kong in the late 1990s to develop his family business and started a number of major investment projects in the Mainland.
Mr Ho is a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He is also a member of the Selection Committee and Election Committee for the First and Second Government of the Hong Kong SAR during 1996-1998 and 2000-2005, respectively. He is an economic consultant of Shandong Provincial Government of the PRC, an Honorary Trustee of Peking University and a Trustee of University of International Business and Economics in the PRC. |
