Dr Donald Li is a specialist in Family Medicine in private practice, and the sole proprietor of Family Medical Practice in Hong Kong. He is President of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) and has been an ardent advocate in promoting better primary care and family health. Dr Li is a member of the 13th National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Medical & Health sector, and also a member of Chief Executive's Council of Advisers on Innovation and Strategic Development.

Dr Li is the Past President of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and Chairman of the Governing Board of HKJC Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute and Censor of the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians. He is also substantially involved in public services, particularly related to healthcare. Dr Li is the Director of Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Association and Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Council. He is also Chairman of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council and serves as Honorary Advisor of Community Medical and Education Services Association (HK) and Honorary Advisor of Hong Kong Federation of Professions. He is a member of the Steering Committee on Primary Healthcare Development, the Steering Committee on Strategic Review on Healthcare Manpower Planning and Professional Development of the Food and Health Bureau. He also serves as a member of the Slope Safety Communication Strategy Advisory Committee of Civil Engineering and Development Department. Dr Li was awarded Honorary University Fellow from The University of Hong Kong in 2015 and Honorary Fellow from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2016 in recognition of his notable contributions to society.

Dr Li also dedicates much of his professional time to academia and teaching locally and internationally. He serves as Honorary Professor in the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong; Honorary Clinical Professor in Division of Family Medicine and Primary Health Care, The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care of The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Honorary Professor of School of Medicine of Shanghai Tongji University; Guest Professor of Zhejiang University School of Medicine; Honorary Professor of Fudan University; Honorary Advisor of Shanghai Huashan Worldwide Medical Center; Honorary Consultant at Huashan Hospital, Shanghai; Advisor to the Chinese Society of General Practice of the Chinese Medical Association; Vice Chairman of Cross-Straits Medicine Exchange Association; Advisor of Doctors’ Education and Training in General Practice Committee of Chinese Medical Doctor Association; and Honorary Chairman of the committee for Young Alliance and Young Doctor on Chinese General Practice enhancement project. Dr Li is the President of World Association of Chinese General Practitioners. Dr Li was a lecturer of the Diploma of Family Medicine of the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians, and an examiner of the conjoint RACGP HKCFP Fellowship examination in Family Medicine. Over the past 20 years, Dr Li has been a leading expert in supporting and fostering the development of family medicine training in Mainland China. He was awarded the Magnolia Gold Award presented by the Shanghai Municipal Government in 2017 and the Fok Ying-Tung Prize –The World Outstanding Chinese Doctor Award in 2019.

Dr Li is Honorary Steward of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Honorary Adviser of The Hong Kong Award for Young People and Honorary Advisor of Agency for Volunteer Service. He is also the Chairman of the Medical & Health subcommittee of Belt and Road General Chamber of Commerce, international advisor of PingAn Good Doctors, a member of Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies, Director of the 8th Board of Directors of Friends of Hong Kong Association, Vice President of World Association of Chinese Doctors, Medical & Healthcare subcommittee of Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Corporation. Dr Li is the Independent Non-executive Director of UMP Healthcare Holdings Limited and C-MER Eye Care Holdings Limited.
