Hong Kong relies heavily on imported food. The food scandal of Shanghai Husi Food Company has aroused public concern on our food safety regulations. The Centre’s weekly analysis examines the existing regulations on genetically modified (GM) food, and raises concern over another genetic engineering technology – mutation breeding – for its potential threat to food safety in Hong Kong.
