When it comes to retirement protection, needs of housewives, who have no official retirement age, could have been overlooked. Among the working population in Hong Kong, nearly 600,000 are family carers – a group unlikely to receive much retirement savings under the existing MPF system. To provide them with better retirement protection in their twilight years, setting up a matching grant could be a good way out.
