The Financial Secretary John Tsang wrote on his blog about research in and application of local innovative technology in early October which prompted people to rethink the future direction of local knowledge-based economy. Based on the report ‘Hong Kong as a Knowledge-based Economy – A Statistical Perspective’ recently released by the Census and Statistics Department, the Centre’s weekly analysis examines the development of Hong Kong towards a knowledge-based economy by analysing the city’s information and communication technology (ICT), human resources development, innovation system and business environment. The article ponders ways to promote university R&D outputs to local industrial and commercial businesses, where high value-added technology could benefit the local economy instead of others.
