Social enterprises: stepping out of welfare stereotype



While the Commission on Poverty has established the ‘Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund’ to assist the development of social enterprises (SEs) in Hong Kong, many people are still unfamiliar with the concept of SEs. It could be hard to understand how SEs manage to fulfill their social missions and make profits at the same time. The Centre’s weekly analysis examines the changing mindset, business models and financing sources of operating SEs. Making reference to successful experiences overseas, the article puts forth recommendations on enhancing confidence of potential investors and sustainability of SEs.
