Address:  Shenzhen and Guangzhou
For the first time, the Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre organised a 90-member youth delegation comprising undergraduates and graduates from local and overseas universities as well as helpers to visit Guangzhou and Shenzhen during the summer break.
The trip, which took place from 24 to 27 June 2011, was part of the Centre’s continuous efforts to promote better understanding of the Pearl River Delta (PRD).
Led by FoBs Directors Rock Chen and Armstrong Lee, the action-packed study tour enabled the youths to see for themselves the latest developments of the PRD and to compare the similarities and differences between the two areas through visits and discussions with academics, business leaders and university students there.
The four-day itinerary covered exclusive visits to the production line of Honda in Guangzhou, Yantian container port and Huawei Technologies, one of the leading global telecommunications solution corporations based in Shenzhen.
On the second day of the visit, the young delegates visited Redtory, a contemporary arts and creative centre converted from an obsolete factory complex in the heart of Guangzhou.
They also had the opportunity to discuss their personal goals, career plans and topical issues with their peers from Sun Yat-Sen University, one of the top 10 universities in the Mainland.
While in Shenzhen, they attended a sharing session by three Hong Kong professionals living and working in the Mainland - a young entrepreneur, a banker and an online marketing director.
The highlight of the tour was a high table dinner hosted by the Centre’s Chairman Anthony Wu in Shenzhen, who inspired them to think ahead and look at the potential of the PRD.
