Facing the challenges of ageing population, and the urgent needs of hundreds of thousands of elderly living in poverty, Bauhinia supports a comprehensive retirement protection scheme that addresses elderly poverty and the insufficiency of Hong Kong’s existing retirement protection measures.

The Centre welcomes the 2016-17 Budget announced by the Government, particularly in its efforts to boost the economy and support the development of local industries, as well as to enhance social welfare, medical services and education in Hong Kong. Noting the impacts of the short-term measures, we recommend the Government to put more resources on the long-term development and social investment.

Bauhinia has submitted recommendations on Legislative Council Ordinance (Amendment of Schedule 5) Order 2015 and Maximum Amount of Election Expenses (Legislative Council Election) (Amendment) Regulation 2015 on 7 Dec, advocating for a review of the subsidy rate of financial assistance scheme for candidates, in conjunction with the adjustment of the subsidy rate and election expenses limit in the long run.
